Remembrance Day 2024

Posted: 13th November 2024

At Vita et Pax Prep School in Enfield, North London, our community gathered with solemnity and respect to commemorate Remembrance Day. This year, all classes participated in creating their own poppy wreaths, which they presented in a moving Year 6-led remembrance assembly. The red poppies, a symbol of remembrance and hope, reflected our commitment to honoring those who have fought and sacrificed in wars for the peace we cherish today.

The assembly was a poignant event where children read aloud original poems, each one capturing the gravity of Remembrance Day in their own words. These heartfelt pieces expressed gratitude, sorrow, and remembrance for soldiers who bravely served their country. Through poetry, our students paid tribute to the fallen, recognizing that their sacrifices laid the foundation for the freedom we now enjoy.

In addition to the poems and wreaths, our students and staff sang “Peace, Perfect Peace” and “We’ll Meet Again” as a way to unite in reflection. These songs, chosen for their significance and emotional resonance, allowed everyone present to honor the legacy of those lost in conflict while reaffirming our shared hope for a world where peace prevails.

At Vita et Pax, we believe it is essential to teach the importance of remembrance, especially to younger generations. By engaging in these acts of reflection, our students learn about the values of courage, sacrifice, and the impact of history on our lives. This Remembrance Day was a meaningful opportunity for our school to come together as a community, to look back with gratitude, and to look forward with a commitment to peace.
