Astronights at the Science Museum – A Night to Remember!
On Friday 16th May, pupils from Years 4, 5 and 6 at Vita et Pax Preparatory School in Enfield enjoyed an unforgettable overnight adventure at the world-famous Science Museum in South Kensington. The much-anticipated Astronights event offered a unique opportunity for our children to explore science in a truly hands-on, exciting, and immersive way.
From the moment they arrived, the evening was packed with wonder, laughter, and learning. The children took part in a range of fascinating activities including space bingo, where they explored the mysteries of the universe in a fun and interactive way. They also had the chance to make their own UV lights, learning how ultraviolet radiation plays a role in both science and everyday life.
A highlight for many was discovering how the digestive system works in space — an eye-opening look into the challenges astronauts face when living aboard the International Space Station. The children were amazed to learn how even the most basic human functions become complex in zero gravity!
The adventure continued in the Wonderlab, where pupils explored over 50 hands-on exhibits showcasing the magic of forces, light, sound, and electricity. The excitement and curiosity on every child’s face made it clear that this was no ordinary school trip — it was a night of real scientific discovery.
Throughout the night, pupils not only deepened their understanding of scientific concepts but also grew in independence, teamwork, and confidence. For many, it was their first time staying away from home overnight — and they did so in one of the most inspiring settings imaginable.
