Celebrating 80 Years of VE Day at Vita
Yesterday at Vita, we proudly marked the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a joyful celebration full of colour, fun, and tradition. As a North London Prep School rooted in Enfield and guided by strong family values, we believe it’s vital for our pupils to connect with key moments in history in meaningful and memorable ways.
The school came alive in a wave of red, white and blue as the children arrived dressed in the patriotic colours of the Union Jack. Their bright outfits brought a vibrant sense of pride to the day and reflected the spirit of unity that swept across Britain on May 8th, 1945. It was heartwarming to see our young learners so engaged and excited to take part, with many eager to share what they had learned about VE Day in class in the lead-up to the celebration.
In the afternoon, we stepped back in time with a host of traditional British games that brought the whole school community together. There was joyful chaos in the air as children took turns playing bingo, skipping with friends, batting in quick rounds of cricket, and trying their best at the ever-entertaining “toss the wellie.” These simple, classic activities encouraged teamwork, resilience, and plenty of laughter—reminding us all of the importance of coming together through play and celebration.
To round off our commemorative day, the children gathered outside under clear blue skies to enjoy a slice of delicious Victoria Sponge cake. Shared laughter, sunny weather, and a sweet treat made for the perfect ending. It felt like a true echo of the celebratory street parties that took place across Britain 80 years ago, where communities came together to mark peace and new beginnings.
