The children in Class one have been learning about the special Jewish festival of lights, Hanukkah.
The children started their learning by reading the book ‘The Miracle of Hanukkah’ by Malachy Doyle. The children learnt about King Antiochus and how Judah Maccabee fought against him to protect the traditions of Judaism. They then went on to discuss how the special oil burnt for eight days instead of one. The children then found out how Hanukkah is celebrated today. They wrote about the special foods eaten during the festival, the game of dreidel and the Hanukkiah.
